Makarska coast - which resort?

Helped needed please. Which is the best resort on the Makarska coast? Have been looking at Tucepi or Brela and would welcome any comments or thoughts. We are planning to go early June for 10 days and will have a car for getting out and about. We enjoy walking and sightseeing, not bothered about lying on the beach all day. Looking for somewhere not too busy and with a good choice of restaurants in the evening. Have been to Rovinj and Cavtat, loved both.

|||

Not sure you are going to find a place not too busy along the Makarska Riviera. I would suggest the Hotel Alga in Tucepi. I have stayed there and found it quite adequate, except its a very very busy area. If you want a little more quiet, then maybe Brela would be better for you?

|||

june is quite

I suggest you

Np Krka

antic Salona

Split - Make diokletian palace walking tour

Hvar

|||

Hi Yorkie,

I%26#39;ve actually been to both. Admittedly was Sept when we visited but a little more variety I would say Tucepi than Brela. Don%26#39;t get me wrong wrong Brela is lovely but its very very small. So guess its just a case of what your looking for, but for a bigger selection of resturants etc I%26#39;d recommend Tucepi there arent that many bars or rests in Brela.

A Rough Steer required

Hello,

Strongly considering visiting Croatia this summer. Was in Dubrovnik for a week in 2005 and loved it. This time I want to see some of the islands as well.

If anyone could have a stab at answering the following questions, I would be much obliged and would be more than happy to help them if with any experience I have of travelling in different countries that may be of interest.

1. One of the reasons I have chosen Croatia is that I thought Dubrovnik was a nice mix. Chilled and historic but with plenty of nightlife too. What islands would best match this description?

2. How long does it take on a ferry/ or to drive from Dubrovnik to Hvar or where one could take a ferry to Hvar or a nearby island worth visiting?

3. I%26#39;ll be travelling with a male companion and we a re both single so, like I said, a bit of nightlife and the opportunity to meet people- backpackers and the like- is important to us. Are the islands okay for this or is it more of a couples / family destination?

Any help you can give me would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Barry

Think Hvar town on Hvar Island is the match – historical, nightlife, lots of daily escape options. You can also make a trip to Split from there (fast catamaran connection).

Ferry ride from Dubrovnik to Hvar is about 7 hours (with a stopover in Korcula). Mind that ferry port on Hvar island is the town of Stari Grad – from there to Hvar town either bus or taxi.

Perhaps you can have a stopover in Korcula for a night, from there to Hvar you can take fast catamarans - they sail only in high season I think, but the good thing is they go straight Korcula to Hvar town (not to Stari Grad like ferries).

|||

You can drive from Dubrovnik to Drvenik (about 2 hours max) and take a ferry to Sucuraj on Hvar island. 80 kn long scenic and dramatic road leads to Hvar. You will meet people in Hvar. Don%26#39;t worry...

|||

Thanks for that.

One more thing, Im thinking the first couple of weeks in June. Will the season be going at that stage or quiet?

|||

The real high season starts sometime mid June.

|||

Thanks again.

I risk repeating myself here but sometimes one persons idea of nightlife and someone elses is different.

By nightlife, I mean bars, nightclubs, singles etc. I know its not going to be crazy but out door plazas full of couples etc drinking coffee and smoking is not my idea of nightlife!

Which is it guys? Thanks.

|||

Hvar is rather cosmopolitan little town during summers with a great vibe. You%26#39;ll find a lot of singles and booze – but it aint Temple Bar exactly. Bars are more cocktail bar types.

Summer Holiday

I am thinking of a summer holiday to croatia in august with small group of friends aged 26-27. Which areas are best for beaches and some good nightlife?

|||

I suggest route - Split - Hvar - Dubrovnik

|||

Fly into Split and get out to the islands of Hvar or Brac.

Quiet place around Split - on an island?

Hi,

I am looking for some advice to find a quiet place somewhere around Split. Would be nice on one of the nearby islands.

Looking for a place without the mass tourism, close to a nice beach, something nice for a family with two kids.

We had stayed two years ago in a wonderful little village called Mlini- close to Dubrovnik, but now would like to explore Central Dalmatia.

Any ideas? Thanks!

|||

Hi,

I like a little village Splitska /Hvar/, or Pucisca or Sutivan /Brac/, maybe Stomorska /Solta/.... Mali and Veli Drvenik /in front of Trogir........

but for family with two kids - I%26#39;d choose Rab - google it and you%26#39;ll see.......

bye

jeanne

|||

How about the island of Vis?

|||

on season or out season

|||

Check out Supetar/Brac. You can get there via ferry from Split. Beaches are stone but very nice. Ferry means you can go to Split for the day if the kids get bored.

|||

I wouldn%26#39;t choose Supetar; it is a main %26quot;harbour%26quot; on Brac, so there are always lot%26#39;s of people....

if you choose town of Vis, try to find the accommodation close to Ceska Vila...

bye

jeanne

|||

Many places on the islands but Solta or Vis would be my choices!

|||

Dear all,

many thanks for all your good advice! I had now googled Solta and Stomorska and it sounds really great.

there is just one thing: on some websides they refer to Stomorska, as a crowded disco-paradise of the island during the summer, is it true?

On the other hand, the other small towns, Maslinica etc sounds like very, very quiet..... Too quiet!!

How is your experience?

And if you had stayed at Stomorska, how is the beach?

Are there trips too to other island? And how is it possible to get around on the island?

Thanks!

|||

Stomorska is my favorite place at Dalmatian islands for weekends in the summer.Center of the village has a few lovely resturants and caffe bars with live music in the high season.There is no any disco now in the center that it was a few years ago.

Only disco is in village Staro Selo few kilometres away.

At another hand during the day village is really tranquile and relaxing.

Stomorska has a beautiful untouched beaches with cristal sea without mass toursim and there you will enjoy for sure.

You can looking for accommodation just a litlle outside the center of the village and then you will be few steps from the beaches.

Maslinica is really very, very calm place.

From island Solta there is no ferry line to other islands but there is daily excursions with private boats. All info about that you will get in tourst office.

1st trip to Croatia

Hi..

I am planning to go to Croatia this year for a summer holiday with my boyfriend but haven%26#39;t got a clue where to stay. Ideally we would like somewhere with a bit of nightlife and a plush hotel. Any suggestions??

Thanks

|||

Hello,

BOL /island of Brac/ is -definitely- a perfect place for you with the most beautiful beach, it is very %26quot;in%26quot;, /lot%26#39;s of VIPs go there/, great night life...

bye

jeanne

|||

Hvar is the place for you! Bol is a bit %26quot;out%26quot;... Also, some great chic hotels in Hvar - Adriana and Riva

|||

I think Bol or Hvar would be excellent choices!

|||

Hi Holly, don%26#39;t rule out Makarska, which looks like the French Riviera, without the high prices and crowds. It is a beautiful city and has some lovely hotels and apartments. I find the net is great for sourcing out the best places. Good luck!

Taxi fare from ferry terminal to Old Town

Hi there - can anyone tell us how much it will cost to take a taxi from the ferry terminal to Old Town? We will have babies and some luggage with us and therefore may not be able to cope with the bus. Can cabs go into the Old Town? If not, how do people with luggage get to apartments they%26#39;ve booked inside the Old Town?

Thanks for your help.

|||

cannot remember but around E12 ....its not that far and I think it is a set price plus luggage extra.

however where is your apartment as this can be another issue....We had to lug heavy cases 120 steps up to our place and it was a little bit of effort .

send me a message on TA messages if you want some tales on dubothernik and can link a map to your unit .
